Sky Dive for Richard McNally

Have you ever thought of jumping out of an aeroplane from 10,000 ft? Have you ever had the courage to go through with it? Have you ever thought of using that jump to raise sponsorship in memory of someone? Well that is exactly what one very brave woman did recently on behalf of her late husband.

Richard McNally took part in the Brownsea Island Swim in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed it each time, so much so, that he used the swim to raise funds for RLSS Poole Lifeguard which was very kind of him indeed. Although he entered the swim for a 4th year in 2013, he unfortunately had to withdraw from the swim that year due to ill health, as he was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately Richard passed away in January of this year aged just 43.

Richard’s wife wanted to do something in Richard’s memory and whilst she decided that swimming round Brownsea Island was perhaps a challenge too far (due to her own swimming ability) Maria decided to take up an equally challenging challenge of carrying out a Sky Dive and went about raising sponsorship for RLSS Poole Lifeguard as her husband had done in previous years.

Maria raised an incredible £750 for us and came to the Dolphin Pool on one of our club training nights to present us with the money that she had raised.

The club wants to do something special with the money raised and therefore we are currently investigating the purchase of an inflatable tent that can be used as a First Aid Tent at the Brownsea Island Swim and at other events where we provide safety cover. We will provide more photos of the tent as and when it arrives.

So on behalf of RLSS Poole Lifeguard, we would like to express our thanks to Maria for this very generous act and will seek to have the Tent named in Richard’s memory.
